So, it happened like they said it would, but Marquez gave his all, and that’s why people love him. This fight was electric, though, with Mayweather desperate to avoid Marquez’s lethal blows by keeping his left shoulder raised and indeed rapidly withdrawing from the fray when Marquez looked to be weighing up a big one. That said, Floyd was amazing, as ever. He stood before the Mexican with his arms down throughout the fight, mocked him with funny faces, and basically ground his down with some serious left hooks and relentless jabs that were both persistent and powerful. The following weekend saw Latino hero Chris Arreola take on Vitali Klitschko, with Arreola’s corner throwing in the towel, against the wishes of Arreola. Next up is the most-awaited of the year, the Cotto v. Pacquiao fight that threatens to blow all the rest away in 2009.
