Will Pacman be able to do what Floyd Mayweather Jr. couldn’t and knock Marquez out? Most people might think so, but don’t count Marquez out so easily. When Marquez vs. Pacquiao tickets go on sale, we’ll see real boxing fans heading out to Vegas to watch a bruising spectacle between two real fighters. It’s been suggested that Pacquiao will be too much for Marquez as the Latin fighter moves up in weight to face the Filipino. Fighter Juan Diaz recently said he thinks Pacman “is going to blow [Marquez] away”, and that the 144-lb catchweight is simply too big for Marquez to make with any real muscle. Discussions initially centered around a 145 to 143 catchweight, with each fighter’s camp insisting on one or the other. As the boxing public begins to look forward to buying Cotto v. Now Mayweather has done his part in the double anti-climax involving Joshua Clottey and Shane Mosley, it seems he is ready to let bygones be bygones and reach some kind of workable agreement with Mayweather’s people. A bid to make this fight happen is underway, make no mistake about that. Who knows which way it will go? I suspect that Mayweather will be still pushing for the same type of unlimited urine testing but with possible constraints on blood sampling around the time of the actual fight, whenever that may be.

Just a couple of days following Mayweather Jr’s defeat of Mosley, Pacquiao began to talk about this fight getting back on track. Mayweather v Pacquiao may still happen, and that’s the one the whole world wants to see. Mayweather continues to show that he is prepared to suffer virtually any inconvenience to make sure he isn’t using performance enhancing drugs. I guess we can take this as evidence that he doesn’t use them, right?

Pacquiao’s refusal to undergo the testing was most likely a reaction to the controlling nature of the Mayweather camp, when he stated he would only entertain an end to blood testing 30 days before the fight. He gave in to 24 days eventually, but this ended up not being enough to see things through. Now, however, we may have another shot at seeing this monumental superfight. Mayweather v. Pacquiao could have happened before we hit 2011, and that will be fantastic.

If you know your boxing, you’ll be thinking about the MGM Grand, Las Vegas, and Mayweather Mosley tickets. So, it happened like they said it would, but Marquez gave his all, and that’s why people love him. This fight was electric, though, with Mayweather desperate to avoid Marquez’s lethal blows by keeping his left shoulder raised and indeed rapidly withdrawing from the fray when Marquez looked to be weighing up a big one. That said, Floyd was amazing, as ever. He stood before the Mexican with his arms down throughout the fight, mocked him with funny faces, and basically ground his down with some serious left hooks and relentless jabs that were both persistent and powerful. The following weekend saw Latino hero Chris Arreola take on Vitali Klitschko, with Arreola’s corner throwing in the towel, against the wishes of Arreola. Klitschko tickets have always sold well, for both of the Klitschko brothers, and this one was a telling rampage from the Ukrainian powerhouse.
Next up is the most-awaited of the year, the Cotto v. Pacquiao fight that threatens to blow all the rest away in 2009. Pacquiao must already have set his sights on a Mayweather date, but Cotto will be looking to stop him and be in the frame himself. Cotto Pacquiao is the one they’re all waiting for now, so make sure you have your Cotto Pacquiao tickets in hand in time. When Floyd “Pretty Boy” Mayweather steps back into the ring in a couple of weeks, the speculation over whether he is giving himself an easy ride will be settled once and for all. Another factor that tells us something about the significance – or perceived significance – of this bout is the price of Mayweather v. Marquez tickets; when compared to the upcoming Cotto-Pacquiao tickets, there is a distinct price difference. Mayweather v. Marquez tickets, though a hugely anticipated bout, seems not to be currently selling as fast as Cotto v. Pacquiao tickets. This is most likely due to the fact that the Mayweather Marquez bout was postponed; the pressure to buy boxing tickets was relieved slightly, but it looks like a lot of boxing fans might be disappointed if they leave it to long.
Golden Boy Promotions have referred to the face-off as “the biggest fight of this year”, but the Cotto people might have something to say about that. Cotto-Pacquiao ticket sales for their November 14 fight at same venue look somewhat more vigorous and many are saying that this reflects the greater importance of the Cotto fight. Tickets for Pacquiao vs. Cotto fight have been on public sale since August 17, 2009, and have been selling like crazy in the run-in to the big one at the MGM Grand. The entire arena was declared sold out by promoter Bob Arum within a few hours; advance bulk orders placed by the Vegas casino operators meant that the general public experienced severely diminished numbers of tickets being available. Mayweather’s nickname, “Money” Mayweather, looks to be threatened ahead of their fight, but many of those in the know are laughing – they know it was the postponement that caused the lull in Mayweather tickets sales, and they warn that a last minute tickets stampede will mean peoples’ complacency could be their worst enemy. There are more arguments about the ticket prices. Mayweather v. Marquez tickets are currently going for around $4,500 to $5,000. Cotto v. Pacquiao tickets are currently avaliable at around $10,000. Skeptics claim that this further proves the greater importance of the Cotto bout, but there’s another way to see it; if indeed the Cotto Pacquiao fight was sold out because of casino operators buying up blocks of tickets, then Cotto tickets will be scarcer and anyone knows that this will drive up their price. If the Mayweather Marquez tickets have suffered a lull in sales due to the injury to Mayweather, then more Mayweather tickets being available means ticket prices themselves will be down. These two fights have been drawn into a strange competition, which is only a part of a larger situation that involves UFC 103 tickets; the Mayweather Marquez fight will be staged at the exact same time as UFC 103 in Dallas, Texas. The two events have been subject to a crazy wrangle that means the TV networks are now fighting over who will draw the most viewers for the spectacles. At the same time, the Mayweather Marquez tickets sales and the UFC 103 tickets sales might be affected by the coincidence. Such is life….such is the fight game…

A novel contest between boxing and UFC fighting has sprung up ahead of the much-anticipated bout between Mayweather and Marquez. The Mayweather Marquez boxing fight will happen on the same Saturday night as UFC 103: Franklin v. Belfort, at the same time. This has got the TV companies in quite a state! No-one saw it coming, but competition for viewership between UFC 103 and the Golden Boys Promoted main event between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Juan Marquez is set to heat up the airwaves. The two sets of promoters have now been plunged into a face-off as they fight to convince fight fans to watch their show instead of the other guys. It’s hard to believe anyone would ever put UFC above boxing, but that’s just my (heavily biased) opinion. What would you buy, Mayweather Marquez tickets or UFC 103 tickets? Spike TV have now announced that they will be screening an hour (8 fights) of the UFC 103 undercard commercial free prior to the pay per view portion of the event kicking in. In response, Golden Boy has sanctioned the Mayweather-Marquez card to be screened in 170 movie theatres across the country.

Not since the golden era of the early 80s has there been a boxing fight screened live in movie theaters. The 1980 bout between “Sugar” Ray Leonard and Roberto Duran was the last one, and it received massive attention. This is all so much words, though, if you are a true boxing fan and you really want to be in Vegas for Mexican Independence Day, when Mexican Marquez takes on American Mayweather. The entire city will be consumed by the fight and its significance, and to actually have Mayweather tickets for the Marquez fight will be a dream come true for some, but not for all. After all, a night at the movies costs almost as much as the real thing, so why accept substitutes? It’s gonna get very interesting as the night of the two big fights draws near; both of these fight cards are very impressive, but for me there’s only one winner: Mayweather v. Marquez. The reason? The winner gets to fight Manny Pacquiao – and let’s not forget that Cotto v. Pacquiao tickets are also selling well right now. Gee, the world’s a great place when there are some killer fights on the horizon, huh?

He seems to actually gain energy as the fight goes on, and this is a nightmare for tiring opponents. When you buy tickets to Mayweather Marquez, you buy tickets to the unknown. That’s why Mayweather v. Marquez tickets are selling so fast now. Just like those Pacquiao v. Cotto tickets everyone’s talking about, this fight is really an open question mark, and both sides are well represented.

Some are saying that Mayweather is suffering from “ring rust”, even more so now the fight has been postponed. It will be almost two years since he fought a real fight when he finally goes up against the mighty Mexican, and Marquez, wily fox that he is, will use this for all it’s worth against him, switching his own game plan and upping the energy level at unexpected moments, for which he is famous. One thing is for sure; Marquez better have some serious intent behind those blows, because Mayweather’s “Pretty Boy” nickname is nothing to do with his willingness to stand up and take a punch. He can roll with the dangerous swingers, tuck his chin down deep to avoid the jabs and uppercuts, and all the while those eyes and that brain never stop working. Marquez knows all this and more, of course, but whether this will help him as the fight goes on is anybody’s guess right now. I just wanna grab my Mayweather v. Marquez tickets and be there when the bell goes and these top dogs step up!

Marquez is also the master of the counter punch. he can hurt with both hands, as Juan Diaz discovered to his surprise at the end of their fight earlier this year. Diaz was knocked out by a vicious Marquez combo, a trademark series of disorienting smashes that saw him on the canvass before he even knew he was there. Marquez is confident of a victory in Vegas, but Mayweather will not hear of it. And then there are the critics, those who insist that this is a mere stop-gap for Mayweather before he finally gets the big one against Pacman. Then there are those who think it will be quite another story; a showdown not between Mayweather and Pacman but between Marquez and Pacquiao. Either way, it will be a hell of a thing. Marquez seems like the underdog, but there are a few variables in his favor. One is the rib injury sustained by Mayweather that caused this fight to be postponed. A rib injury can be a recurring thing if not allowed time to heal, and only nature will show us if this fight has been re-scheduled correctly. Another is the fact that the two fight on Mexican Independence Day; Vegas will be packed with Marquez’ fellow countrymen, and they’ll all be wanting their boy to get a piece of the Pretty Boy.  Add it all up and you will see that this fight really is a trip into the unknown. Marquez is no underdog, and Mayweather is probably aware of that. Grab your Marquez Mayweather tickets and watch a night of boxing you will quite simply never forget.
